Trauma-Focused Psychotherapy and Counselling for people affected by complex life circumstances in Edinburgh and Online
Perhaps you’re looking for something to change?
- Do you struggle to express yourself the way you want to? Maybe you fear you’d get overwhelmed, panic and shut down, lose control or lose important people if you said how you felt?
- Maybe you know you have experienced some big events in your life and you feel like you’re too much or too complex? Do you worry that if you told someone your full story, they’d run for the hills or think you’re a little bit mad?
- Do you want to set boundaries but the thought of saying no leaves you drowning in guilt, feeling selfish for disappointing or abandoning others?
- Maybe you recognise you’re anxious or stuck in certain addictive patterns, you’ve done enough reading to know a few things that sometimes help, but can’t get to the place of calm long enough to pause and change the outcome? Maybe you’re noticing the impact this is having on you and others around you?
What is Therapy With Me Like?
I integrate ideas from several models of therapy and tailor my approach according to your needs, ensuring I am always trauma-focused. I am interested in your story, but I am also curious about how this shows up in your body e.g. Are you easily overwhelmed? Do you get physical symptoms? How are those responses unique to you, when are they most intense, what helps you regulate? We will work at a pace that allows you to stay feeling present and pause whenever necessary. You set the pace and you get to decide how much you reveal, when you are ready. I will introduce elements of psycho-education as we go along, so that you feel empowered and that we’re working collaboratively on goals that you want to work on. My job is to do myself out of a job!
About Me (and my Cat, Hollie)
I am a therapist and supervisor with lived experience of neurodivergence, complex trauma, adoption and the LGBTQ community.
I’d like to think I’m not your average therapist: I have lived a vibrant, non-conforming life, which means I have travelled and experienced a lot. I’m rarely shocked and I like to think outside the box. I can be a bit of a rebel, and I like to think creatively, so I will be adapting our sessions to your needs, rather than churning out worksheets or using textbook speak. I am known for asking the questions others are thinking, I offer useful challenge where appropriate and I think I also have a good sense of humour!
I have a very old, gentle therapy cat, Hollie, who loves sitting on clients’ laps. Many people find her very calming to have her in the room. If you are nervous or allergic however, I can, of course, arrange for her to be elsewhere.
I work Mondays to Thursdays during the day. My first appointment is 8.45am and my last appointment is at 5.45pm. I do have a limited number of concession spaces. Please feel free to ask.
Therapy in Edinburgh and Online.
I live and work from home in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian. My office is on the first floor. There is parking outside and various buses come close or nearby (including Lothian buses 31, 39, 140, 49). We usually meet for at least 60minutes, either in person in my home in Midlothian or online. I have clients from the UK and I am insured to work with international clients. I work with individuals and couples, anyone over 16yrs old.

Would you like to talk? It is important to find a therapist you click with. In the same way you wouldn’t give up on getting your haircut if you didn’t like your latest haircut, don’t give up on therapy if the first person you talk to doesn’t feel like the right fit. If you’d like to start a conversation, feel free to send me an enquiry and I’ll do my best to get back to you in the next 48hours (often it’s much sooner).
